WWE Champion Big E was at the losing end of their Champion vs. Champion with Universal Champion Roman Reigns in the main event of Survivor Series Sunday night. Although he managed to withstand Reigns’ offensive tackle – which included the Rock Bottom – Reigns finally took him by escaping from Big Ending’s attempt, kicking E’s injured knee and nailing him with his second spear in the match for the pin. Although the two were positioned as arch rivals on TV, E had nothing but positive things to say about Reigns in a post-match interview with Sports Illustrated.
“This was my first single major event on pay-per-view, and doing it with Romanian means more than that,” said E. “Our paths were different, but after the match we thought about spending our days, circa 2010, together at the FCW Warehouse. We weren’t making a lot of money but we were really hungry.”
“His strength and sportsmanship are real,” he added. “He even got me into this powerbomb. I thought he’d save her, but he had that second surge to wake me up. Until you’re in the ring with him, people don’t fully realize how good he is. He’s a great performer in an amazing race, and you can’t take anything from him” .
While reflecting on his career, E remarked, “I can’t say I’ve always been a guy who fought from under—I debuted as Dolph Ziggler’s bodyguard and brought down John Cena, so I can’t pretend I’ve never been by looking at anything. But I’m a hardly man He’s 5 11 years old; I haven’t had all these accolades at work, and even though I’m not the Roman type, it’s all about this fighting for me. Life has been full of learning how to get up after a fall.”
Both Raw and SmackDown will be featured on tonight’s episode of Raw inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The only match confirmed so far is Rey and Dominic Mysterio’s match against Bobby Lashley, while Angle will also be following the stolen golden egg from Vince McMahon.
