With the new gig, Cardi B joins other notable AMA hosts including Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Murphy, Jimmy Kimmel, Britney Spears, LL Cool J, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Tracee Ellis Ross, Lionel Richie and Taraji P. Henson.
In anticipation of Sunday night, Cardi B spoke with diverse On what to expect from the awards ceremony, who is she most excited to see performing and nearly collaborating with BTS.
How do you feel about hosting this year’s AMA? What energy do you hope to bring into the night?
I’m the host, but I feel like the actors and their performance, it’s like their night, you know what I’m saying? Like when you perform, it’s your night. And I’ll just be myself. That’s it. There will be a few things I’ve read on the remote, but I’m going to do it freestyle because I don’t like feeling like I’m talking like a robot. I just want to be myself
Who are you most excited to see performance?
All of them. I’m really excited to see Bad Bunny, Megan [Thee Stallion], Chloe, Silk Sonic, BTS, Olivia Rodrigo. It’s a good assortment.
Are you a big fan of BTS?
I love BTS so much, but let me tell you something. My daughter loves BTS Much Much. Like, “Mom, mom, put [on] song.” And he’s like, I already know what you’re talking about.
Should we expect to see Cardi B and BTS collaborate in the future?
Could. I was supposed to be on record with them, but I had just released a record and then it was going to break with time. But I love them.
Who are you planning to crack jokes about?
I’m not going to crack jokes on my friends, because my jokes are rude. My jokes are the kinds of jokes I have to make between you and me. I can’t make jokes in public because you guys are going to think… I could be rude!
Is hosting the AMAs a step toward hosting something like the Oscars someday?
I do not know. It depends. This is something the fans will determine. If people like me, I will do more. If people don’t like me, I’ll go home and sleep.
