Everton’s Frank Lampard wants 19-year-old Chelsea talent on loan

Blues legend and Everton manager Frank Lampard is keen on signing young Chelsea defender Levi Colwill on loan, according to The Sun.

Lampard led Everton to secure Premier League safety after a remarkable 3-2 comeback win over Crystal Palace on Thursday.

The former Chelsea midfielder has now begun to focus on the preparation for the next season, including potential new signings.

One of the players who reportedly caught Lampard’s attention is Colwill.

The 19-year-old centre-back has had an impressive season at loan club Huddersfield Town and is very close to helping them secure a Premier League promotion after reaching the Championship play-off final.

Unsurprisingly, he is expected to return to Chelsea soon and is likely to take part in pre-season under Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues, after all, desperately need to add new centre-backs to their squad ahead of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen’s confirmed summer departures.

Trevoh Chalobah is so far the only Chelsea academy graduate to earn a first-team promotion under Tuchel, so Colwill will still have to impress the manager and earn his spot.

If Tuchel decides against promoting the young defender and to look for other options in the transfer market instead, a Premier League loan to Everton may not be a bad option for Colwill.

Lampard has a good track record in developing young players as a manager, and he has likely kept an eye on Colwill for quite a while now.

Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori had remarkable loan spells under Lampard at Derby County before breaking into the first team at Chelsea a couple of years ago.

Tomori, in particular, was named Derby’s player of the season as a centre-back in that season.
