(Expired) Professor Ken Kollman, The Frederick G.L. Huetwell Professorship in Political Science, Inaugural Lecture

Please join us for a personal lecture to celebrate Professor Ken Coleman at Weiser Hall on Tuesday 21st September at 4:00 PM

Many people have intense fears about the future of American democracy. They should worry less about the long-term survival of democracy and, like parties and politicians, focus more on winning the next round of elections. The partisanship that seems to be getting more and more solid in our society is actually a source of stability and predictability, and it gives people a stake in the outcome of elections. The main parties, contrary to popular belief, remain moderate forces. Granted, electoral rules and institutions are threatened but they are stronger than many people think, and if people focus on winning elections and adopting policies, and less worry about harm to others, then American democracy will be fine.
